Agility jitters

Is amazon.com better?  I found it there.  Obviously I need to move to Canada and open a dogwise type store.  Big Smile  All those books aobut dogs, I'd never get anything done.

there IS an amazon.CA, which would make more sense, but for some strange reason it's not there!!! so then it goes back to the old intl shipping dilemma. bleh. it's starting to look like i might just have to break down and fork out the $40 dollars....

anybody have a used copy i could buy off them??! that could work too! i'm not fussy about dog eared pages lol (lamest joke ever)

    • Gold Top Dog

Oh I couldn't part with my copy.  I've put too many important notes in there.  Why is Intl shipping so expensive?  Could you write to the amazonCa people and ask them to carry the book or get a copy for you?  Maybe they can get around the shipping$ problem.

    hm! what a good idea!!!!

i might aswell talk to my friend who works at chapters (book store) and see if he can get it sent to them, and avoid paying the shipping all together!!!!

keep your fingers crossed for me!!

    that's what i hear...

i told my agility trainer today about my dilemma, and she said the +$40 was totally worth it.... so if my friend can't get it in for me i'm just gonna go ahead and get it.... then impatiently check the mail 5 times a day until it arrives lol

I just ordered Control Unleashed from Clean Run last week -- I think it was $25, but I couldn't tell you what shipping to Canada would be....

I've heard so many good things about the book.  Kaiser is a handful and a half, so I'm hoping that CU can give me a few tips for training a type of dog that I'm quite unfamiliar with.  Luke was SO bidable and Kaiser definitely has a mind of his own.

My copy will be here Wednesday -- along with my new Ditas agility shoes!  I figured after a year it's time to see what all the fuss is about and if they really make a difference.

    • Gold Top Dog

I'm sure Kaiser is no worse than a basenji, so CU should be helpful.

Let me know what you think about the Ditas.  I tried ordering a pair of shoes from CR and tried 2 or 3 pair before I gave up.  (Kept having to send them back, pay more postages, etc.)

i just spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out how much shipping to canada is for the clean run website... grrrrr!!!

i've heard so much good talk about this book that even when/if i do break down and pay out the nose for the book, that it'll take like over a month for it to get here!!!! argh!

i have wicked internet-rage right now.

For dogs with some self control issues, I have seen success with the Gentle Leader. Our class has a 2 year old corgi and without it she pretty much has a mind of her own in which she as a handful. Our instructor offered the handler to try the GL and she's a completely changed dog! Molly, the corgi, leaves it on during class.

One of my Jack has some severe anxiety issues and we have had setbacks in training because of them. I am planning to try the GL and if that doesn't work, I will go by the suggestions by several trainers on the CU list and he is going on meds so that training can continue then he'll hopefully learn from it which then he will be off the meds. This is not to be confused with hyperactiveness, this is pure anxiety. He can work himself up out of nothing.

Off-topic reply to Agilebasenji -- Got the Dita Turf Ladies today and they're going back.  The website said that they run a size small, but I'd say it's more like TWO sizes.  I'm not impressed -- plus they only go one half size larger.  I wear a size 10 and ordered an 11 and they still don't fit!  They're going back and I'm going to try the AgileGear Qualifers instead.  I'm too scared to try another style of Dita when this pair was so messed up!

Personally, I think *they* have something wrong.  The box says 9.5.  They fit me like a slightly small ladies 9.5 shoe would fit.  They say that it's 9.5 mens/11 women's.  Why would a LADIES TURF box be marked in men's sizes?  I think they're wrong, they think they aren't, so I'm switching brands.

Unforunately I can't even make a comment with regards to the shoe's comfort, as my toes were so squished in the toe box that I didn't even want to walk around the office.  With the odd sizing, I don't know how anyone could order those shoes and be happy.

If the AgileGear shoes don't work I'm getting my money back and shopping locally for something.

Got the Control Unleashed book, but haven't had a chance to crack the cover yet!

Oh my does that sound familiar.  I'm afraid to buy shoes on line any more.  If you're okay with that concept, sierratradingpost.com or go to the rei webpage and, if you're like me, check out the outlet/sale corner.  The cool thing about rei, is that if there is a store in your town, you can pick up there and there is NO shipping charges (you do have to pay tax).  Then you can try them on in the store and return them then and there if they don't fit, so no extra trip or $ spent.  good deal there.  But yea, I was looking forward to having Ditas, I'd heard so many good things about them.  (I now have Merril, but have also had NewBalance and Sockeny sp?)

Saucony.  tee hee...  Saucony is the runners choice.  At least it was in high school when I ran track and field.  I have a pair of Nike's I think, that have good tread for grass.  I also bought a cushy pair for indoor training.  These shoes are not used for anything other than agility.  Which means at this time, I need a new pair of every day sneakers, but I'm thinking to see if I can find another pair like my indoor shoes because they are pretty cushy.

There is a CU yahoo group, but beware, it is very high volume.

and congrats on your new book.  I hope you enjoy it (and get as much out of it) as I have.

I got about 100 pages into my book last night.  I feel like I should be taking notes as I go....

My advice, don't worry about that now, do that on the second or third pass.

eta:  I knew I was reading the right book when she said that I would never be more interesting than chasing rabbits.  I've known that for years, but I kept finding trainers that would tell me I have to be more interesting.  Those people never had sighthounds.

ah! i just signed up with yahoo groups (my agility facility/school got my into it), so for sure why not!

i'm sure i will enjoy it. i am not a huge reader, never have been. but i am finding myself getting completely absorbed in dog psychology books! i guess i'm just more passionate about it than the latest whats-his-face fiction novels :P

hey, agilebasenji... is it true that besenjis are hard to train? i always thought they looked so cute, and in my "when pigs fly" book, she mentions them every now and then as being tough to keep focussed.
