How did you get started in Showing?

    • Gold Top Dog

I love the picture of the boy with the trophy behind his back! Lol!

Are there any books I can read as a reference?? I'm going to the library today to start the long long process of finding a breed. Lol

I can't believe it but I will actually start showing soon! In this little town and I actually found somebody that shows dogs! I am so lucky!

    Here is how it happend

Lies, cool picture of double handling... i've always heard it as a negative as in "If the judge catches you double handling you could be excused from the ring."  So it's interesting to know how it's used and embraced in another breed/ring.  Cool!

Yeah I always thought it sounded really dumb.  I thought, if they can get those brainless American dogs to gait nice in the ring and free stack then I don't see why anyone should HAVE to double their dog!

Have you watched the AKC GSD ring? LOL If not, I think you'd be surprised at the double handling that goes on there. It is rather like a circus at times - people with cowbells, noisemakers, toys. At a big local all breed show here, the GSD ring is soooooooooo far from the rest of the show that it is like it isn't even part of the show. The reason? So no one complains about all the doubling!

Yes, I have but it must've not been allowed at the shows I've been to (and would have been logistically impossible anyway) but I don't go to many AKC conformation shows, mainly UKC if it's all-breed.

It is not "allowed" at any AKC shows but it certainly still goes on. Some All-Breed judges will not tolerate it and you don't tend to see it much at smaller, less competive All-Breed shows. You will see it at any AKC GSD Specialty, many larger AKC shows and shows with GSD breeder-judges. You can often spot doubling which is not as obvious at All Breed shows too, especially with the GSD in the group ring. You'll see people shaking choke collars, clicking clickers or the such outside the ring trying not to be noticed.

It's also illegal, in the AKC, to dye dogs. It's illegal to use ANY substance that alters a dog's appearance (and certainly, the beautiful Poodles would not be able to do it without a bit of assistance.... heck, ENA gets stuff to give her texture and keep her in place!). Lots of illegal things happen at shows, LOL.

The thing about Ena is... she's lovely. She is breed standard, but ring trend is SMALL and flashy. Ena is a true hairless, and most of the dogs out there are hairy hairless. Also, it's becoming a handler breed. The judge yesterday REALLY liked E, but put up a handler with a short faced, square bitch instead (they're supposed to be longer than tall, and have a muzzle as long as the head with a short, defined stop.... the muzzle should be refined, and that bitch had a square muzzle...) *sigh*. I'll finish her, UKC, no problem.

And a handler tried to snag me, yesterday, LOL. Come onnnn.... I'll finish your dog for you, and you can learn and travellllll..... LOL No, thanks! Don't want Ena B to be a kennel dog. I'm having a blast, with it. We had a four day show this week, but it got rained out for the last two. Yesterday, we showed in the mud. That was fun! Ena loves mud! She moved really well, and enjoyed it, a lot.
