Grain-free canned

    Grain-free canned

Does anyone else have trouble finding grain-free canned? CORE has a new one out - $2.49 for the 12.5 oz can, eeek! Other than that I know NV makes a canned line, but the closest place that sells NV is an hour away - right up the street from Pirate's acupuncturist, actually :) I've seen the Old Mother Hubbard grain free cans, on their website, but I've never seen them in stores.

How about the EVO 95% meat canned?   Also, ByNature has a newer line of grain-free canned as well.  Evanger's carries a line of canned that are grain-free, but are not complete and should be used as supplemental feeding.

Both the EVO and ByNature are complete and balanced

$2.50 for 12.5 oz?   Two words:

    Home.

    Cooking!

At that price you could afford the most expensive consult with the spendiest consultant out there, and it would pay for itself by the time you would have gone through 100 cans.  That, around here, would be about two months.  lol  But of course you don't have to spend $250 on a nutritional consultant - there's tons of alternatives that don't cost nearly that much.

And if all you are doing is topping kibble, if you keep it below 25 to 30 per cent of the daily calories, you don't even need pro help to balance it!

By Nature 95% meat is fantastic. Can be hard to find though.

Casey gets the 95% meat by EVO added to his kibble. It's not too expensive, but I couldn't afford to just feed the can....under $2 a can I think.

We do the Wellness 95% meats.  I've been looking at some of the Canine Caviar products as well.

I do homecook! Only for dinner though - 30% of his food. He doesn't even eat kibble, anymore. Canned in the morning, raw in the middle of the day, homecooked at night. Remember I asked you about the jimaca, Brookcove? :)

I guess maybe it is time to do a consultation with someone. Canned is pretty expensive, even though a 12.5 oz can is six servings for us. Hmm.

Thanks for the recommendations - I didn't know EVO was complete and balanced, maybe I'll give that a try while I get up the nerve to do full homecooked!

yup - EVO is good. Casey LOVES it.... so do the cats......

Ena gets California Natural's fish and sweet potato one. That's grain free. The Natural Balance allergy ones are grain free. Solid Gold's Green Cow is grain free.

Those are the ones I get, the most often. Lately, though, I've just been slopping whatever on  the kibble, for Ena. I gave up, LOL. Canned is too expensive!

Jennie, do you think it's more expensive than premade raw?  I feel like I'm spending a fortune on NV every week!

    • Gold Top Dog

It feels more expensive. I'm not sure whether it is or not. They've both been cutting back, in their diets, LOL. I've been making a LOT more dog food, lately. If they keep going to the vet at this rate... meh.

Ooh, I forgot about CalNat. Honestly the closest place around here is blechy Pet Supermarket. There was a good local place but they've been closed, since we moved back here, due to an electrical fire.

I don't buy it (too expensive) but no. Local pet-store ONLY stocks grain-free stuff and last time I was there I counted at least 20 different brands, each in multiple flavors, of grain-free canned.
