AFS Dog Food (Animal Food Services)

    Hi Everyone:
Does anyone feed this food or have any information on it? I'm not sure about the ingredients including the vitamins in the Majestic Raw 5 pound rolls. Are these vitamins complete and all a dog needs?

They certainly claim a lot and have a informative website. The person I spoke with just convinced me that this is the best food for my dog and that their food is what dogs need and has everything in it, I would not need to add anything, just feed this and this only.
I did order some but after 2 days in the refrigerator, it turned a gray color and smelled funny. They told me it was the organs in the food that I smelled and it was normal for it to turn that color, their food lasts 5 days in fridge. Well, by day 3 I was ready to be sick it smelled so funny. Lots of blood too as it thawed.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if it is actually a good food, or is it just unhealthy junk meat.

    Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

When I used to work in a shop that sold dog food, we had a few customers who were VERY upset when we had to stop carrrying AFS for cost reasons (shipping costs became astronomical).  They claimed that the AFS was the only thing their dogs would eat and/or the only thing that worked for their allergies.

That said, I took some sample sizes home a few times for Luke and I had the same experiences as you.  I wasn't fond of the gray color as they thawed/aged and the amount of blood was absolutely disgusting.

I, personally, feel that the Nature's Variety frozen raw is a cleaner, better product.  It was also easier/cheaper for us to get in the store.

I haven't tried their raw product but my dogs really like their freeze-dried patties and treats.  The treats (and patties) have meat, organ (including some tripe) and ground bone in them so they are balanced.  No worries about throwing anything off when giving your dog a lot of treats.

Thanks.  That's the thing, I have one dog that has so many tummy issues, this food actually seemed to help, but there are times he has a decent stool and other times it's not.  That's what's confusing to me  the stools are so inconsistent  and I'm just worried if it's a good product or not.  I've tried Oma's Pride and they all had perfectly hard normal stools, but almost too hard due to the bone content, plus it wasn't complete, so I tried this but that smell after a day or 2 and color aghhhhhh.

    keep post coming!

    Thanks

Well, the first ingredient that I saw was beef organ, including tripe. Tripe is gray and stinky, so.... I dunno.

What about some of the other complete products? There's Bravo Completes, and there's Nature's Variety. Several companies make complete raw diets. You could get a premix from Urban Wolf, or Know Better Dog Food, and add your own meat to it.
