Dry CAN cause such problems, but doesn't always.

Not always, but it is a major risk factor.  Cats just don't drink enough water to make up for low moisture in dry food.  Even adding a bit a canned to dry food is better than dry alone.

I guess I must have really wierd critters, because mine, dogs and cats, DO drink a lot of water.  I hear often that dogs and cats don't drink enough water to offset kibble, but all of mine do, and I know exactly how much the cats drink since their water bowl is away from the dogs.

I switched our senior cat to Nature's Best chicken and she is doing so much better.  Her kidneys were beginning to fail and thought we would try this food before going on to RX food.  With all the negativities I've read abut SD, it really seems to work for animals with any kidney issues or older pets.  I guess its b/c the phosphorous is lower than most dry foods out there.

Ironic thing is, Nature's Best gave my aunt's dog, Peanut, kidney problems. Had to have surgery and everything after being put on Nature's Best. The vet said that it was Nature's Best that caused it because he never had a problem before. -shrugs-

Either way, I will never touch a Science Diet brand of food ever. For those prices I can get a much much better food.

She's been on top quality (innove to chicken soup) foods until this time.  Its just cheaper to go on SD then go on the prescription diets plus cats generally won't eat the RX foods.  So, now that she is much better eating this food, it worked for the time being.  I can't expect miracles as she is 20

Our cat pippi was on purina cat food her entire 17 years.  now she did get fresh cooked fish when i had it---mackeral, trout, flounder.  But that was by no means regular and she was probably 7 before i started feeding her some.   I had been cooking  it for my dogs

Well, I tried canned cat food that was "fish", when i did not have the real thing and she would not touch it.  she wanted only the real thing.  dry food did not cause her any problems at all.  in her little morethan 17 years she never had a single illness.  all vet trips to vet was for routine checks and vax.

cats, dogs, humans.  What does great for one cat, dog, human may be awful for another.
