YOU SAID THEY WOULD NEVER DO IT !

     Well Natura did it....

They take you of a tour of their manufacturing plant...  WOW  !

I am so very impressed..and thankful that a challenge I put out to all manufacturers of Pet Food has been met...

    Take the tour...

    I am impressed!

The only thing that made me raise my eyebrow was when they said "every different food is dyed and then shaped..."  Pretty sure any dye is supposed to be put on the ingredient list....unless I am mistaken on what they said.

I remember hearing that part on the video but they were referring to the "die" not "dye"

dies as in dies made by a die maker (dies = metal forms) .  When I heard that I believe they were referring to their own dies to shape kibbles.  I remember Innova has unique shaped kibbles.

P.S. I was also impressed.  I love Healthwise Chicken and Oatmeal (more so than California Natural because of lower carbohydrate content, higher omegas 3 and 6) and innova evo 95% & cal nat canned foods.  I hope they don't change like Canidae or like Nutro.
    • Gold Top Dog

I guess that means shape?  The only thing that I still questioned was when they said that, and then said, "this is how each kibble has it's own unique color and shape...etc etc...for consistency between bags...etc."  Wonder why they would  mention color when talking about it?

    • Gold Top Dog

Unless I didn't hear it but I didn' hear any color. If you contact them, I am pretty sure they would clarify what they say.

I don't remember seeing colored kibbles (and like many folks, I have seen the shapes of innova, cal nat, innova evo, and healthwise kibbles).

    • Gold Top Dog

Well, I don't like the idea of dye either, but given a choice between dye and melamine, dye and menadione, or dye and mysterious by-products Ick!, I'll take the dye.

    • Gold Top Dog

the extruder pushes the cooked kibble through a shape called a die(much like a cookie cutter)...or a pasta machine for you cooks.

Large bites, small bites, square or round.

The color of Natura's products are all natural... No artificial coloring... ( you guys are just too funny)Wink

So let's see if any other Pet Food Makers put their process and facilities out to the public....from what I've been told some of the older plants are very unclean and foods are rat infested before processing..   Like the one Mars just shut down for good because of the Pedigree Re-calls.

lol I know.  The reason I was asking is because 1.) They mentioned the word "Dye" which apparently means some sort of machine.  Since I am mechanically challenged I was like whaaa? lol 2.) I know what their kibbles look like and they look natural to me!  Smile

I really like the company and I really wish they had a formula that agreed with my dogs.  However every time I've tried Innova or EVO, bad outcomes were a result (literally).

Same here. I was going to try Innova again, but then when I think about it more, I remember how it's turned out in the past. I always hear the same thing from other people too, so I wonder what dogs Natura does work for.

I tried the Innova canned for my cat and he threw it up.  He never throws up his food... Strange.

One of my dogs and all of my cats are currently doing great on EVO... Wink  I'm off to take the tour, now -- thanks for posting.

All my dogs did great on Evo - even Ben was able to tolerate the Red Meat formula for short periods (he was sensitive to dairy).  Back in the day, Ben and Bubo ate nothing but Cal Natural for years and the rest of my dogs ate Innova.  Innova was a great food for my active dogs - I went straight from it to raw and struggled for a little while learning just how much my guys were eating!

I knew most of my working dogs ate a couple measuring cans of Innova  and had never realized that it was about 1500 kcals a day.  Ben ate three scoops of Cal Natural and a can of the old 95% meat, whose brand name escapes me ATM.  Even Maggie in her heyday was a pretty big eater, though a very easy keeper.  She was very active though and still used about 900 kcals per day.  She stays in perfect condition on 475 these days!

Innova is a deceptively concentrated diet and I think a lot of people don't realize that.  it used to be 580 some kcals per cup (I think?  I could have that switched around).  Cal Natural was my go-to transition diet when I could get it easily (I was part of a co-op and I got my order delivered because it comprised about a thrid of the whole co-op monthly order!).

CN is too low in protein and fat for both of my dogs, so that eliminates it as an option.  I once tried the lamb and rice puppy CN for Wolfie, but it smelled like burnt bread (which is different from the adult CN smell), and he wouldn't touch it.  EVO caused a handful of problems for Wolfie, and I wouldn't feed it to Falon because, well, she's not a working dog by any means and I don't want her having any more energy than she already does!  Innova regular was fine for Wolfie I suppose, but he was only on it through a 4lb bag and I ended up switching to something else (don't remember the reason--it was awhile ago).  I originally tried Falon on Innova (regular) and lets just say OMG gas + soft poos!!  Even with an added probiotic she was causing me to gag! lol   I would love to try Healthwise, but there is NO where remotely near me that carries it, and I'm not going to order food online if there are other options I can get around me.

     Basically I wish they had:

-A lower-protein grain free option (in the EVO line)

-A higher-protein limited ingredient diet (in the CN line).

I'm in the process of switching my dogs to Evo for one dog and Innova for the other two.  I think Evo is the hi calorie food, 583 per cup and Innova is about 385 per cup.  But I'm not where I can look at the bags so I could have that backwards.  I hope it agrees with my dogs.  I will be making a very slow transition, about ten days.  My cat is yowling like a crazy thing to get some of that food.  Must smell like the real thing!

OP thanks for posting that link, it was very interesting and came at a good time for me.

Me too. I needed another grain free food in the rotation, so we're trying red meat large bites. I actually bought it after watching the video. So Natura -- the video is working! I am at trying the product after seeing how it's made. LOL
