Flax Seed Oil Vs. Fish Oil
What is the difference between flax seed oil vs. fish oil aside from the obvious vegetable based vs. fish based? For the dogs, I've always supplemented with flax seed when dealing with skin issues. But, now I'm thinking more about fish oil. I've started taking fish oil capsules myself...

Spending limit on dog food.
What is your spending limit on dog food? I was checking some sites that sell dog food and gosh some of the dog food is ridiculesly priced IMO. The petstore that I buy dog food from only sells Wellness,TOTW,some Eagle Pack, Nature's Recipe, and then all the low quality dog food. I really want to try...

Supplements - what do you use, what do you like, what do you dislike...
For those of you who homecook or feed raw, do you routinely add supplements? If so, what? I've heard mention of BalanceIT supplement for vit and minerals, I've heard mention of giving your dog a human multivitamin, etc etc. I know many people add things like fish oil but I'm more talking...

Canine Nutritionists and Yahoo Lists
This is kind of random, but has anyone ever heard of Catherine Lane? I always see Monica Segal, Sabine Contreras, and more recently, Dr. Remillard mentioned here. But I am curious if anyone knows anything about Cat Lane or would recommend her. She also runs a nutrition group on Yahoo, which I have joined...

Bones and the British
I was thinking about my little Westie, Max, and how he is so different from my Lab, and Maltese. There isn't much discussion here about his breed, and I've read all of the old posts so I googled west highland white terrier fourms and found one in the UK. I joined the forum and in the feeding...

Soybean oil and Soy Protein Isolates
Can someone tell me if there is any benefit of soybean oil in dog food? The official explanation I got is the oil is high in linoleic acid but a more reasonable cost than, for example, sunflower oil. And, what are soy protein isolates? Are they soy version of rice protein concentrate? Thank...

vid - feeding kibble (ron2)
Yeah, I know, I was being a bit cheeky. Someone asked why it is that people video their dogs eating raw. So, here's a short vid of Shadow eating kibble. This is his new feed, as of today, 10-4-08. I got him Eagle Pack Holistics Select Lamb Meal and Rice. I'm only not sure about the apples and...

beginning to think about homecooked
Not as a sole diet, but maybe in addition to the kibble we are feeding. However, when I start reading post about vitamin, balancing nutrient levels my eyes spin and I immediately just say forget it! However, I also read about dogs who do fabulously on it - and that makes me think rotating a bit with...

What is similar to Kirkland lamb?
Bo came to me as an emergency foster with another dog and they had a small supply of Kirkland lamb that they both did well on. The two dogs were with me for two weeks, then the second dog left about the time I ran out of food. I can't get Kirkland in Oklahoma so I tried to use ground turkey and rice...

Ok, Sam has a 30lb self-feeder. When he comes inside, I want to take that big, metal thing out of his kennel. Plus, he hates it, and we have to keep the door proped open with a stick. So, my question(s) are : *How much kibble does he need? I personaly find those charts on the bag to vauge, and not...

What kind of meat does your dog do better on?....
Started homecooking nearly a month and a half ago, with rotation of meats every week or so, between Chicken, Turkey, and Ground beef (cooked), along with organ meats from each specie mixed into Preference, a freeze-dried dehydrated vegetable mix that you add your own meat to. My Duck Toller appears...
