Dangit incision trouble for Ellie

Glad that you're getting her checked.  Fingers crossed that it's a simple fix!

Good vibes for Ellie...hope everything goes well at the vet tomorrow!

I cannot WAIT until 8am and we can go in. She needs some help for sure. Poor baby is now just open at the incision site...but oddly...the rest looks to be healing...there's that "granulation" tissue,...think that's what it's called. No fever still, and I think the smell is less, but she looks...awful. I don't know what they'll do about her incision...there's really no healthy skin there to tack together. Open wound management perhaps? *sigh* nothing is ever easy.

Gina, you'll probably have to treat it as an open wound, but I think that you'll be surprised at how quickly it is going to heal.  I hope that the vet visit goes well.  Just hang in there, things will get easier.

phew. Well, stronger antibiotic (Baytril)...hydrotherapy..and this aerosol spray that is supposed to kill off necrotic tissue and promote new tissue growth. They cannot suture or anything and right now, and we HAVE to keep her wrapped to support her abdomen while this all plays out. If that should give way well, obviously your insides need to stay INSIDE. *blargh*

I have 3 babies now that I'll be feeding...poor Ellie is not going to be happy about that....she is adapting to the ace mummy wrap pretty well tho. I am going in to feed the babies in a bit..keeping them in my room. I'll be drying up Ellie with sage here this weekend/week to lessen the weight hanging down there.

I did buy her some Vit C gummie things so hopefully she'll eat those lol.

    LORDY!

Oh no! I'm so sorry, Gina. I hope that she heals quickly, and the babies do well with human mom feeding them.

    Poor Ellie and poor you!

I will say though, they could not be in better hands.

So we went back yesterday for a re check on Ellie's wound.

Unfortunately it's still there lol...I have to laugh otherwise I'll go nuts. Still a big nice hole in her abdomen. The stitches in deeper are holding fine...the dead tissue is completely gone and the wound is actually kinda "clean" looking right now. The doc is going to go in and debride and restitch what he can BUT first we must must MUST get Ellie dried up. He said that'd be half the battle right now. The excess tissues not normally present since she's nursing (at least in her mind). I've used all my tricks but she is bound and determined to keep her milk. He gave her a testosterone shot of all things, and we'll see if that helps...or simply makes her grow a beard!

Dry up vibes...appreciated. This wound care regimen is supremely tough...although marginally easier now that she no longer smells like a rotting corpse.

I hope the shot helps and she drys up soon. This must really worry you Gina but at least you have the infection under control.

Is there somewhere she can stay that she won't have to ever hear or smell the babies? At a friend's house? Someplace like that, just for a few days? Maybe that would help?

Dry up fast, Ellie Belly, so you can get BETTER and play with your babies, again.

I wouldn't put the care of her wound on anyone else I know...family or otherwise. It is...unsettling, and something you have to steel yourself to care for and it needs care many times a day...it's just not feasible for her to be anyplace else than here. She has seem quite a bit less interested in their loud squalling today tho...and is definitely shrunk down some tonight so I think we're headed to a better place with her issue.
