See if he can settle down and sleep -- you think it's physical rather than him hearing something that startled him? Has it increased or decreased since he's been awake?
He's laying on his dog bed right now, but is awake. I don't think anything startled him. The wimpering/yelping (as if hurt) has been the same, just on/off, seems to be coming out of nowhere.

Open his mouth and look at his gums -- are they pink as they should be? Take your fingertip and press hard for a few seconds and then release and see if the color fills RIGHT in. (If not or if the gums are white VET NOW)
Gums are pink. When I press down the area tuns white then pink really quick.

How long ago did he eat? Is there any hardness or discomfort in the gut?
He last ate at 6:00pm...went pee and poop at 7:00pm and pee again at 9:00pm. His gut was soft/normal, I can squeeze it/push down on it, not problem, no discomfort or tension.

Rubbing them roughly isn't likely to show a particular sore area, but feel the body over slowly and gently as a 'petting session' but feel for tension that's abnormal in the body.
He seems to be OK everywhere. Maybe a little tension in his neck/chest, but I'm not sure if it's real tension or not. He's just putting his ears back when I rub him there, but, he sometimes does this anyway.
