Torn paw pad

    Torn paw pad

Maze tore a hole in the pad of her front paw. The skin is still attached so it's kinda like a flap of skin.

It's not bleeding, or causing her much pain but she is limping.

I'm wondering if I should remove the flap of skin and let it heal that way or just leave it be.

     Anyone?

I'd probably snip it off it it's not too large a piece.

I generally bathe it, smear it with some neosporin type ointment, and cover it with a baby sock (vet wrapped to the let). I keep it covered (and dry), for a few days, to give it a chance to scab up.

Neiko's had a few torn pads. Its takes a while to heal. I kept his paw wrapped with vet wrap just to reduce the friction of walking and to give him a little padding in between the ground and the torn pad. That's all you can do really. Just give it time

Bevo tears pads frequently.  I snip off the part that's dangling, then I bandage it for a day or two.

Thanks! Turns out when I got home, Maze had removed the piece herself. Lol. She's not limping today but she is taking it easy. I'm gonna keep an eye on it for a couple more days.

Bugsy had two badly torn pads, I left the flap but it came off quickly. I got something called Cut Heal and his pad healed very quick. i bought it at a farm supply. Brookcove had told me it was commonly used for flyball injuries

There are no farm supply stores around here. Is there any where else that sells them? I should keep something like that in stock just in case.

I would think lots of places have it -

I bought the liquid wound care for about $8 iirc and I can't imagine ever using it all.  That link has a where to find it - I would think it is readily available online, any equine shops too

I hope she is healing well!

She was a little bit tender last night so she's on rest again today. Thou she won't listen and keeps wrestling with Sandy. Lol. I am gonna bring her to work tomorrow and let her behavior tell me whether I should run her or not. At least it'll get her out of the house!

I'll have to go hunting for that stuff! Maybe the pet store can get it in for me. I'll have to ask. Thanks!
