Ear Cleaning

I clean about every 2 weeks lightly, just to monitor health and to be sure Rosco isn't getting yeasty. We manage him through diet, but the ears are always how I can tell if he's out of balance yeast wise.

I mostly use Clora care on a piece of gauze.

I use the Blue Power stuff Callie introduced me to. When Ari's been swimming she gets her ears cleaned multiple times during the week. Other than that, we have to clean every week. She is EXTREMELY prone to yeast infections in her ears and will get one in a heartbeat if we don't stay 1 step ahead of the game.

Before that we used R-7, but it just wasn't cutting it for Ari. Not to say it's a bad cleaner (I love the stuff actually), just Ari's ears are bad and stubborn.

What is the best way to clean the ear itself, not the canal (I have cleaner for that), but the inside of the ear flap? The ear cleaner I have doesn't clean it. I though about some rubbing alcohol on a cotton round and then wash with clear water on a cloth after?? Layla has super clean ears and Abbie's aren't bad, but they do need to be cleaned.

acohol is fine - you just don't want to get it into the canal.

I usually just put some cleaner on a piece of gauze and gently rub the ear folds to clean them. that usually works fine.

I'm very lucky - I've never even had to clean Casey's ears... benefit to having a dog with huge ears, I guess :)
