Well that was scary ... this is why I always have benedryl on hand...

Oliver was playing fetch with BF's son and he ran into my flowers. Apparently some wasps/hornets had made a massive nest in there because he popped up covered head to toe in them. Quickly thinking kid got them off and shooed him in the house and got him. There were still some clinging and stinging when I came in in ears and under tail, etc. Poor Oliver was so freaked out. I immediately popped him a ton of Benedryl... he's really sensitive to horse flies and mosquitoes (his face blows up) so I was scared to think what the bees would do. They bit the inside of his mouth too because as I was getting them off he bit a few and swallowed them :(.

YIKES! We've killed all the ones in the house and he's resting now, but every little flying bug is scaring him. Poor guy! I think my adrenaline has calmed now too. Checked out the ground wasps or whatever they are and there are like 4 entrance holes, softball sized and tons swarming around. RAID!!!

OMG, Poor OLIVER!!! I hope that the Benedryll knocks out any reaction, and he has a good rest, tonight. He's going to be soooo sore, tomorrow.

give him the full 2 mg/lb dose (the normale dose of benedryl which Outdoorschik knows is 1-2 mg/lb) -- but give it every six hours around the clock today and maybe tomorrow and help his system deal with the histamines.

GOOD THINKING -- and man, good thinking on the boy's part that he got him right to you for help.

Ground wasps are BAD news boy.

Poor Oliver! Thank goodness you had the Benadryl on hand, and I'm so glad your BF's son was so quick thinking! Feel better fast, Oliver.

He's doing ok today .The bees/wasps stung him on his eyes, on his face and lips, in his ears, under his tail in that sensitive spot(!), on his belly and burrowed into the darn fur and got him on his sides as well! What a trooper. He was so nervous all day yesterday, biting at himself, shaking, and freaking out every time there was something near ... but has calmed down and the reaction seems to have been controlled by all the Benedryl I've been giving. For those reading I've been giving 2mg. per pound every 6 hours as Callie had mentioned.

BF and his son went out last night and sprayed more Raid on the nests than I thought possible :).... Apparently when they got out there and close the nest was huge and there could hear the buzzing and see them in the mouth of it swarming. SCARY.I hate bees, that reminded me of those horror movie swarms lol. They also retrieved his Kong from on top of the nest!

Never a dull moment that's for sure.

wow I am so glad that poor Oliver is OK! I believe Bugsy got stung in the Spring because he got very twitchy when flying bugs came near him for quite some time. I hope Oliver gets over it sooner rather than later!

We had a huge yellow jacket ground nest and the research I did said to take serious precaution and do any removal/killing at dusk when they aren't active. I was terrified B would put his head in the holes

glad he's doing well -- if he isn't 100% tomorrow, I'd get him in to a regular vet -- sometimes with such massive stinging they DO need prednisone to get rid of all the inflammation (yeah, a word neither you nor I want to hear again *sigh*)

The homeopathic remedy APIS is for bee stings, I always keep that on hand as well.
