jeanna GOOD FOR YOU!!! That's awesome that the vet's wife fell in love, and they should be able to find good homes for the pups as well.
I've done it myself -- sometimes you just GOTTA get that dog out of there, and then trying to figure out what to do is no small task. No one was 'blaming' you at all -- please understand that. We were just trying to give you enough information to be able to make the right call. Sometimes folks think they can do things at home that just aren't what you *think* you're getting into.
A friend of mine found a bitch who was giving birth -- she had hidden out at a local stadium and his brother was hired as a grounds keeper and called Jed to say he *thought* he'd seen this dog and would Jed come and help him look for her.
Someone else called animal control and the guys literally got there just before Animal Control (and here they just plain euthanize puppies on entrance because Animal Control has NO foster facilities at all). So Jed snagged the mother with a noose leash and put the pups in a carryall and scurried out the other side while his brother kept Animal Control busy.
Jed and his wife helped hand rear those pups for EIGHT WEEKS. They placed the Mom, and did contracts for all 8 pups. (all pit mixes of one variety or another) But it was a huge wake-up call for both of them on how incredibly much work baby puppies are.
You're a blessing for her -- you got her the help she needed and you NOTICED what was going on. Even tho you didn't really have the funds you put the dog first, and as far as I'm concerned that nominates you for my HERO FOR THE WEEK!!!!!! You rock lady!!!
