    Ear Mites!! Please Help

Please look at my photos I have posted and please email me with any suggestions on what I can do to help my baby! She has had ear mites now for 2 weeks and we have tried everything to try and get rid of them and now she woke up and both ears are swollen almost shut, red with brown stuff all in it and just raw. I don't know how it got this bad in a matter of hours. I've called the vet and they said all they could do is give her an antibiotic. Please help if you can! LALA BANKSCrying

She needs to be seen by a vet.  She may have ear mites, but she also has a secondary infection.  She is going to need meds for the ears as well as systemic antibiotics to help get it cleared up.

ETA:  I just saw that your vet can't see you until Monday.  I would try to find another vet who can see her sooner.  If that isn't possible, then pick up the antibiotics & keep them as clean as you can until you can be seen.

Everything that Amanda just said.  Ditto.

EAr mites aren't removed with cleaner -- it will need to be something like ivermectin that will kill the mites PLUS they will need to give an antibiotic.

I'm sorry -- saying on Thursday they can't see a dog BLEEDING from the ears until Monday?  That's absolutely unconscionable.  Not only would I tap dance all over them for such a lack of compassion I would be at a different vet in a heartbeat.

And you will likely want to take that picture out of your avatar -- those pics are good to show the problem, but they aren't something you want in your avatar picture -- it's too small to be seen, and by the time they look further it's too graphic for many folks to handle.

good luck -- but honestly, I think this is something WAY more than mites.  Ear mites show up as "coffee grounds" in the ears - it literallly looks like little black bits of coffee ground.  NOT major blood and open wounds on the ears.  I honestly would be on my way to the nearest vet school or at least an emergency vet.  That dog needs to be seen *now*.

that looks like much more than ear mites. You need to call your vet and tell them you NEED to be seen - that is not acceptable. Care credit is available if your funds are tight - but please - get that dog to be seen. that can't be comfortable!

I hope the dogs been seen by now and that everything is OK.  I'm not an expert but that doesn't look like ear mites to me.  If it were my dog I would stop treating myself and get her to a vet and if not an emergency vet.

Edited to add--What a nice dog to be so tolerant of the holding of the sore ears for the pictures.
