The Hip Dislocation Blues
Hello everyone. I am new to this site but I am hoping some of you can offer some hints and/or encouragement. I am mom to a 6 year old newfie. I have had many larger dogs in my life (collies, boxers, German shepherds) but I have always wanted a Newfie. About two years ago we adopted our wonderful Jack...

9 week Pupper with Parvo
Our 9 week old puppy has been diagnosed with Parvo. She is a lab/mastiff mix - and was brought home from a shelter this past weekend. Within 12 hours of coming home we knew something was wrong... lethargic, no eating, no drinking, and runny poop. We took her in to the vets on Monday (24 hours after bringing...

Weirdo color change
Has anyone had this happen to their dog's coat? Every spring, on Oliver's rear left flank, a patch of hair turns noticeably lighter - to a medium/dark brown. The patch of hair and the skin underneath all appear to be quite healthy. He doesn't scratch at it nor does it seem to bother him...

Super dried out nostril - what's safe?
My sister's dog has one side of his nose (essentially, a nostril) that is very, very dried out. I was thinking some bag balm would help, but not sure if it's safe, considering it's on his nose, close to that tongue that could very readily ingest it. I read here that vaseline is no good...

Tiki's having a bad day (meg)
Tiki collapsed this morning, after her bath. She was having a lot of trouble breathing, so I held her for a couple minutes...when I looked at her gums they were BLUE. I scooped her up and called my vet on the way there, luckily we live 5 minutes down the road so by the time we got off the phone, I was...

PhyCox JS for joints??
My vet recommended this to me for Bugsy as we think he may have a bit of arthritis in his hips creeping in. Nothing serious but sometimes he is stiff. The vet has goldens and said that he taken them off rimadyl completely and is using this with great success. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it...

5 month old heeler, ACL tear?
My 5 month old heeler (30 lbs) jumped up on a slick counter, slid and twisted his back leg before falling off. He is now limping, holding his back leg up, whining. I can see no visible injury. He has had a high tolerance for pain, uses his head to force open doors, and never skipped a beat when he was...

Sick Boston Terrier - 8 Months Old
Hey everyone, My dog has been pretty sick but I'm not really sure what to do. I can't afford to take her to the vet for every little thing, so I just want to see how serious everyone thinks this is and if I can play it by ear. My 8 month old boston has had diarrhea for 6 days (Wed-Mon thus far...

Fall Allergies
It is that time of year at our house again. Every year around the 20-24 of August Pella (our lab) gets some kind of reaction to something outside. It starts with her licking her feet when she comes in, and then chewing at them and then she itches. (she does not get sores or anything) but this happens...

Grooming a Disabled Dog
I knew it was probably a bad idea but my poor Kobi was in need of a bath. The problem being - I normally bathe Kobi in the shower stall upstairs. He doesn't do tubs, even if I could lift him in. He is frightened of the hose after being squirted as a pup. He has become very crippled in the last few...

Tiki has some 'issues' (sl2crmeg) updated
Sheesh, I sure know how to pick 'em. Tiki went for her 'free health check' today, and the vet found a few surprises. First off, her flakey, greasy skin is DEMODEX. She couldn't believe it, either. Looks like a LOT of baths are in my future. She also has a pretty deep infection in...
